First day of school

We started school on Monday.  Yes, it was Labor day, but we were all too excited to wait another day.

While we were doing school, the Muhlestein's showed up with the perfect back-to-school....

 ...homemade crayons!
Yum!  (We thought they were real crayons at first!)

I had really lowered my expectations for our first day of school, just because we'd had such a crazy summer schedule.  I thought it was going to take forever to get back into a good school schedule.  So, I set two goals for the day - be patient, and talk kindly.
Our first day actually went so well! I was amazed.

After a super morning doing school, we did enjoy our labor day by going to the lake with our friends, the Seeley's.

 HI ALIYSA!!!

And ended the evening with a delicious dinner - curried chicken, couscous, salad...

...and a family home evening treat - grapes with Zoi honey flavored Greek yogurt.  If you've never had this type of Greek yogurt, you might not want to try it.  Because, you'll never be happy with any other kind of yogurt.  Zoi is...indescribably delicious.

Internet/media

This is a great post on teaching our children about the dangers of the internet, etc. using family home evening lessons & conference talks.

These are a few of my favorite things...

As often as possible, I love going on evening walks with our family.  It always just fills me with happiness.  The little girls get in the stroller,

Taycie is always happiest when we are outside.

 The kids ride their bikes

stop to throw rocks in the river,

 or explore,

Bob has been riding his bike because he has a torn tendon in his knee, and biking is one of the exercises that will hopefully help it to heal.

Some of the kids bring roller blades along, and when we get to smooth roads, they put them on.

We walk, bike, roller blade, run, explore, and play until it's getting dark.  We usually go about 2 miles, one day we did 3.  That was a long walk during the hottest part of the day.  But it still made me feel so happy.

What will we do all winter?

Tis the season...

In August, we did football... and more football... and more football.

Jace had two-a-day practices (two hours in the morning, two hours in the evening), Spencer had football almost every day, and Bob is coaching Spencer's team.

I love watching this little guy play.

I think 5th grade "grid kid" teams are just simply adorable.
(And the head coach is hot, even when he's thinking about football.)

Jace and his friends have helped with a lot of Spencer's practices.  They like helping to coach.

Here are some loyal fans, and future players?

 Spencer is ready to go.

He plays fullback.  There he is, with the ball.  (#11, with the blue sleeves sticking out.  If you're really a BYU fan, you have to wear blue somehow, I guess?)

 And again.

We were sweltering in the sun.  Hard to think that in a few weeks we'll be bundled up at every game.  I'm going to order mild weather for the rest of the season, I think.

 I think he's sweltering, too.

Here he is, at the bottom of a pile.

More football pictures coming...

Sweeeet Sixteen

Lissy turned 16 this year, the same day that Bob turned 40.  Two milestones for two of the most amazing people I've ever met.

She had a fun birthday party, with cake & lots of ice cream,

 Friends,

 Fun,

 Volleyball,

There also was a campfire, marshmallows, night games, and just lots of fun.  I'm sure grateful for the wonderful friends that Aliysa has.  And I'm thankful that this sweet sixteen year old is my daughter.

Taycie Grace

 What a sweet big brother.

Enjoying a Sunday afternoon nap.

I laid Taycie in bed, and she was trying out her new skill of being able to get off a bed by backing up.  It doesn't work so well in a crib.

The Ahren/Aaron's come to visit

I'm way behind on blogging...so here goes some catch up

My dear sister, Ahren, and her husband, Aaron came to stay with us while they were attending his family reunion.  We loved every minute we got to spend with their family.  I am sorry to say that only as they were leaving (early one morning) did I remember that I hadn't taken any pictures their entire visit!  So sad.  Here are Alia and Courtney saying goodbye.

Here they are leaving, in the rain.  Our girls were so sad to see them go!

A final wave, goodbye!
We hope they come back soon.
